Greens Pizza has been open for thirty years and is located in one of Belfast’s historic buildings. It is a successful restaurant & pizzeria with around 100 seats that are in great demand, especially at the weekend when you can sometimes have to wait as much as 45 minutes before grabbing a table! Open for both lunch and dinner, it also offers a takeaway service. The menu offers a wide range of gourmet cuisine made from carefully-chosen ingredients and also caters for vegetarians and vegans. Highlights from the menu include salads and pasta dishes along with a huge variety of pizzas for all tastes.

The request

  • Ever since it first opened (almost 30 years ago!), the pizzeria had been using an old bakery oven having doors with no glass and insulation completely worn away that was no longer able to meet production requirements. Greens Pizza was looking for a high-output, high-performance oven that remains user-friendly even at the busiest times and could be placed in the same recess occupied by the previous one.
  • The restaurant is located in a historic building so that any structural alteration would have required special permission. It was therefore important to find an oven whose installation would not require alterations to brickwork/masonry.

The solution

  • It was love at first sight for the restaurant owner when he saw Oem’s Energy oven in our showroom. He ordered it as soon as he got back to Belfast and one month later the oven was already performing its duties inside the pizzeria.
  • The oven chosen by Greens Pizza is our top-of-the-range Energy twin deck. It offers very high performance thanks to is exclusive technical specifications that include: possibility of automatic turn on twice a day, seven days a week (the user can therefore arrive at the premises and find the oven at the required temperature and ready for use), three different cooking programmes (modifiable according to the pizza chef’s needs), self cleaning programme and steam vent that can be adjusted to suit workload at various times of day.
  • The Oem oven also offers increased energy saving compared to the previous one as a result of greater insulation, double-glazed panoramic doors (to check baking progress without having to keep opening) and automatic turn on.
  • Installation was carried out by Long’s Catering Equipment, an Oem dealer from Belfast owned by George Long.
  • Greens’ owner asked for a pizza chef to come to the premises in order to illustrate the oven and its features to his employees. We therefore recommended a pizza chef with whom we work who is very familiar with the oven. His presence was crucial in establishing the ideal settings for the type of pizza that Greens offers.
  • The project has proved a great success due to the compatibility of the oven’s dimensions (indeed there was no need for building work or new connections that would have required more time and extra expense) and the employees’ willingness to learn how to use the oven straight away, finding the best settings for their type of pizza and workloads.
  • The new oven’s output is very high, peaking at around 300/400 pizzas per evening at the weekend.
